Jack Daniel's Old No 7 Tennessee Whiskey Review
Jack Daniel’s Old No. 7 $20
Established in 1866 but rebuilt in 1875 by Jack Daniel and Dan Call who hired Nathan ‘Nearest’ Green to be their master distiller
Old No 7 comes from the distillery being the 7th distillery in Tennessee’s 4th tax district
Mash bill is 80% corn, 8% rye and 12 % malted barley – it’s distilled to 70% abv/(140 proof)
Technically meets the specification for Bourbon
Uses Lincoln County Process – new make spirit is filtered through 10 foot vats of sugar maple charcoal for six days before barrelling
Approximately aged between 4 – 7 years - it's ready when it's ready
Owned by Brown Forman since 1987. It’s subsequently been watered down from 50% abv/100 proof to 40% abv/80 proof in 2002

Nose: Nail polish remover, banana bread, toffee apple, vanilla and rich tea biscuits
Palate: The mouth feel is a little thin followed by alcohol heat and a touch of hot cinnamon. Corn, caramel, banana and a lot of oak.
Finish: Pretty short with some lingering oak spice and tannins.
Score: 4 out of 10 – Whiskey Bore
Overall: Basic, with little aroma or palate variation. An easy sipper but nothing to really recommend here.
